As the New Year descends upon us, thoughts about what happened in the last 12 months wrap us around. Over the year, we experience this sensation at least twice: near our birthday and on the new year’s eve. Something inside us keeps count and evaluates where we’ve been and how far we have come. I don’t do well with new year’s resolutions, and I never write a full list, but I always set one intention for the year that is about to begin.
For this new year, the only intention I set is to invest my time in what makes me happy.
2017 was a fantastic year that offered me incredible gifts. At the beginning of it, I aimed it would be the year my dreams would come true. And it was, culminating with a full month in Bali, after visiting Rome, Budapest, Bratislava, Prague, and Greece. After stirring me up, Bali made me go deep within and take care of my soul more than I could imagine.
I became more aware of myself. My courage strengthened. I started saying more “Yes” to myself and more “No” to anything that wasn’t aligned with who I am. I didn’t realize all the work that was going on my inside until the first week of December when a deep silence embraced my whole being. My mind stood still, and I felt like seeing for the first time all the shapes and colors around me. In the summer of 2014, I had a similar feeling, and remarkable changes happened afterward, so I expect fantastic things to occur. After all, as C. S. Lewis said, “extraordinary things happen to extraordinary people” and we are all extraordinary in our own way.
With few hours remaining of 2017, I part with my heart full of gratitude for all the heart-warming moments this year has given me. As for this new year, the only intention I set is to invest my time in what makes me happy. May 2018 carry us on other untravelled roads and bring to light all those gifts hidden within our souls!
